This is Omori Hiroji, lovingly nicknamed 'Mori' by his friends. This picture is a concept sketch of him as a vampire, a few centuries into the future. He is a character in a manga that I am working on with a friend. The first story Mori appears in has him as a retired drummer from a famous JRock band (fictional story, of course). However, due to (secret!) certain circumstances, he is unable to find the match to his soul, the one he would love unconditionally. Thus starts Mori's real story, in which he has become a vampire in order to wait out the centuries until he can find true love.
Sappy, I know, but, hey, everybody has to have a happy ending, right? I mean, my Demekun found his Yuki-chan, so why not Mori?
In any case, as I said, this is concept art for Mori in the second story. Please note that he has his right eye covered by his bangs. In the first story, it's revealed that he is blind in that eye due to an incident when he was in high school. He looked really hot with an eyepatch, but my working-partner said "No! I'll hate you if you give him an eyepatch!" So, no eyepatch. But he does have two new piercings. Just so you know, he has five piercings total: eyebrow, lip, ear, nipple, and belly button.
Anyways...yea, so what do ya'll think of the luffable Mori-kun? ^^
Oh, and I'm completely serious about him being in a manga created by me and a friend. At the moment, we don't have any of the necessary supplies, and I still have difficulty with backgrounds, but it is our goal to sell the finished chapters at cons, and hopefully on our own website, in the near future. So...wish me luck with that, neh?
Mori concept art (c) me
((PS: Should I put up concept art of other characters, or maybe I should put up some more concept art of Mori as a human? I actually only put this up because my working-partner requested a scan to show off in forums on anime conventions.))
Advanced critique... okay. Um, his eyes are too tilted, even for the Japanese culture it imitates. Hair should fall more freely than that. Remember to think of it as strands (but don't draw it that way!) rather than a single, oddly shaped clump. Torso is a little too long, and hipbones, a bit too prominent. I REALLY don't want to know what's going on with his crotch.
Let's see.... Try coloring more smoothly. I know it's not easy with color pencils, but it will make everything look better. The way I go about this, at least, is to do everything in layers. Very, very light layers, on top of each other, until you get the shade you want.
Except for the hair, I do love it, so don't be upset with this critique!

Thanks for the advanced critique. That's the first I've ever gotten, which makes me happy. If I get good critiques, that means I can better my art for the enjoyment of all (mostly me when it gets closer and closer to being professional).

Yes, they are. But I'll have to ask my working-partner first, since they are originally her characters (only about four in the actual series are mine: Demetrius, Yuki, Mori, and Meiji (don't ask yet)).

YES, finally someone who understands the value of indepth critiques. I have an idea! If I watch you, and give this kind of critique on all of your work, will you do the same for mine? You do some things better than I do, so I'd appreciate the help.

Of course! I would love to. ^^ Most of the people I meet who've seen my art just say, "They're good," and don't really say how to improve them. Not even my Art teacher. >< But, yes, I'll critique you if you critique me. ^^

And I belive you should put up concepts of your other characters as well as Mori as a human. They sound interesting.
